Meta Tags doesn’t help for search engine result ranking but it helps to put some great and better impact on user. Any bad or incorrect Meta Tag of any page can have a negative impact. Meta tags still very useful and important to search engines, but it doesn’t make any magic to get ranking in Google, Bing, Yahoo and others. Usually we think meta tags can increase ranking of webpage in search engines, but its wrong. So stop thinking that meta tags can boost your search engine ranking.
What is Meta Tags ????
Meta tags are page data tags which lie between the <head> section in HTML code of any webpage document. The text inside the open and closing head tags is not displayed, but it tell browsers or web services about specific information of webpage. It tells about what a webpage contain to the browser or web application.

Description Meta Tag
It describe your webpage, but it no longer than 156 characters (include space). In search result some description is longer and other are shorter, 156 character is just a rule.
Description tags tell about webpage content to search engine. If Google ‘s algorithm decided that description is badly written then Google algorithm replace it with its own description from the webpage content. Good description of a webpage in search result help to increase click through rates of the webpage. Description helps for site ranking but keywords doesn’t helped. Empty Description of any webpage will be filled for you by Google and Bing. Important! Don’t use full quotation marks (“”) in description, it will cut off your description. Always use single quotes to avoid cut off issue.

Before few years ago its much important for search engine for search engine results but now this not used by search engines. Microsoft’s Bing use this keyword tag for spam detect.
Keyword may heart your site for search result, best option is that never use keyword tag.

Robots Meta Tag
Still robots tag is one of the most important tag in the eye of search engine crawler. Search engine crawler index/noindex, dofollow/nofollow the links in the web page according to the robots meta tag of the corresponding webpage.

It means that do not index this page and do not follow the links on this page. This page will be drop from search index and link to other website will not be followed. Mostly this tag is used when a site is in construction process.

It means that do index this page and do not follow the links on this page. This page will be index and links to other page will not be followed, link path is break to other webpage from this page.

It means that do not index the webpage and do follow the links on this page. This page will be drop from index but links to other pages will be followed, link to other webpage from this page is not break.

It means that do index the webpage and do follow the links on this page. This page will be index and links to other pages will be followed, link path is not break to other website from this page.
10 Important Point For Description Tag
Tell search engine what you want to tell about the page in three sentences – make it good.
Place the keyword of the page in the first sentence.
Use four words instead of 15, People doesn’t have patience when searching for things.
If your business base on telephonic, put your number in every description tag on your website.
Use all 156 characters available for description tags. If you only use one sentence, people may think your site isn’t complete.
Put your brand term in the front or in the back of the description. This will help to user to understand that you are authority for your brand, it generate more click.
Do not put URL in the description.
Use symbols in descriptions so they stand out, such as diamonds (&diams: ♦ ♦♦♦), clubs (&clubs: ♣ ♣♣♣), hearts (&hearts: ♥ ♥♥♥) or arrows (⇒: ⇒ ⇒⇒⇒).
DON’T USE ALL CAPS. People hate that.
